Students in the 9th-12th grades are encouraged to take an ACT college entrance exam. There are two remaining tests available this academic school year. For the Saturday April 12th test students must register by March 7, 2014. The June 14 test must have registration in by May 9, 2014. There is a fee of $36.50 to take the test. Students should register at www.actstudent.org/start. Helpful resources can prepare students, download the free Preparing for the ACT practice booklet, and sign up for the ACT question of the day emails. Plus a free website, marchtosuccess.com is a great tool for students to complete practice tests. Parents may also be interested to know that twice per year you can purchase the ACT test answers, see ACT website for additional information. Going over the answers is great way to improve the scores on the next attempt. I will send out the new 2014-2015 testing dates as soon as they are released.
February is the ideal month for students to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). There is a great toolkit available at FinancialAidToolkit.ed.gov that walks parents and students through the sometimes confusing process. If your student is a Senior in High school the sooner you complete the FAFSA the more opportunity for funding. Some funds begin distribution March 1 so if your application is not in before that, you are missing out on money. I am here to help so please contact my office for assistance. Remember the "Free" in FAFSA. You should never pay to apply for financial aid.
Happy Thanksgiving Week. I plan to tour the new campus of Rogers State University-Pryor very soon. The new campus is located in the Mid-America Industrial Park on highway 69-A. Driving by the facility makes me realize how fortunate we are to have an opportunity to learn on a beautiful campus so close to home. Adair concurrent students will be some of the first students to experience the amazing new facility. Classes begin on January 13, 2014 at R.S.U. and students are enrolling now for spring courses. For more information on how students can become a concurrent student contact my office, or email me at email@example.com.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and that we all take a few minutes to remember precisely what we are truly thankful for!
